Several years ago I discovered the Soviet WW2 general Nikolai Vatutin who had been totally off my radar scope. He was ambushed and killed in February 1944 by the nationalistic Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UAP).

The UAP initially fought against the Nazis but later cooperated with them against the communists. So I imagine that's how some Ukrainian nationalists adopted aspects of Nazi ideology and symbology. Here are a few historical clips about General Vatutin...
