Morning Henry,
Interesting article in Houston Chronicle this morning written by Jon Van(Chicago Tribune) FAT CELLS "TELL" BRAIN WHEN TO STOP EATING
Articel quotes a Dr. Michael Schwartz(UN.of Washington) who gave an update on obesity at a session Thursday during the annual meeting of the American Assoc.for the Advancement of Science.
"Researchers have found that fat cells produce a chemical called LEPTIN that is part of nature's way of keeping an individual's weight in balance. People who are fat usually have high levels of leptin. The leptin is supposed to communicate to the brain you should stop eating, you've got plenty of energy reserves. But in many people something happens to that pathway to the brain, and the message doesn't get through. But as researchers learn more about the leptin signals to the brain, they are finding ways to manipulate it. In research with animals, scientist have been able to activate alternative pathways that cause the brain to become more sensitive to leptin."
Schwartz believes this research will lead to effective obesity treatment in a few years.

Sounds like good news for Ligand>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
