EU satellite boxes...................

Satellite broadcasts will represent 65% of the European digital TV market by 2002, according to the latest report from UK-based IT industry analysts Datamonitor. The report: Enabled set-top box markets in Europe, said digital set-top boxes have the potential to bring interactive applications such as home-shopping, banking and e-mail to satellite and cable users in addition to terrestrial broadcasts.

'In the short-to-medium term, satellite will dominate the developing digital marketplace,' said Datamonitor consultant Fraser Pearce. 'However, significant opportunities still exist in the cable and terrestrial markets over the next three to five years. The current 2.5 mln digital subscribers will rise to over 13 mln in just four years as services develop into digital platforms,' said Pearce.
