Justin, i remember getting a book from NSF in 90' about the grand challange initative, essentially funding code and hardware so that all NSF's dependants would be able to tackle some big problems in the late 90's. i guess this is the fruit. i like the idea of having three US builders of petaflop boxes, so the temtation by vendors to arrogance is minimised. so do you support the whole ASCI thing wholeheartedly? without ASCI, i'd imagine there would be a lot of Super-freaks hanging out in diners and becoming deliquent. SGI's press releases from last year were equally brash IMO. vincent
