Benedict Arnold was working with George Washington to look for the best site to position the militia along the Hudson River in order to see the British ships approaching...

They decided on a piece of last on the west bank that extended somewhat into the river itself...

The called it west point...

Arnold was working with Washington during the week and would come home on the weekends to be with his wife...

Peggy Shiffin was very young and also exceptionally pretty, she was 17 years old when they married and she came from a high society family...

So, when Benedict was away during the week she was always invited to those high society gatherings during the week...

During one of the gatherings she was introduced to the head of the British military intelligence, this was just a casual introduction and had nothing really to do with the military or with military intelligence, she was clueless...

When Peggy was asked what her husband does, she said he works with George Washington and looking for a strategic place to spot British ships as they moved up the Hudson River...

The guy was very interested and asked her where that location is, she didn't know but told him she'll find out when he comes home, she was just a dumb kid trying to be helpful...

All of this was seemingly very innocent and foolish...

When Arnold came home for the weekend Peggy asked him where that location was, so he drew a map to show her where it was...

After Benedict returned to work on Monday, Peggy was again invited to yet another high society gathering, she took the drawing with her and hoped the guy was there for her to show him...

He was there and she showed him the drawing, he kept it...

Some time later when he was captured, Washington's troops found that drawing on him and asked how he got it...

He told the soldiers that Peggy Shiffen Arnold, Benedict's wife, gave him the drawing and that Benedict Arnold himself drew that map...

An arrest warrant was then issued for Arnold and the rest is history...
