I worked in Indonesia for several years in the early 80s and returned to see some old business associates. Things are very frightening and I just don't see much positive happening. Friends at the US Embassy are getting ready to evacuate although that is far from official policy. The difference between now and 1965 is that CNN will show the riots in real time. The middle class (a fairly large number) are losing big time their gains of the last 15 years. An Indonesian I know that works at USAID saw her salary go down to $1 an hour. This is for someone with a grad degree from the US. What was interesting was that things are disappearing from the stores in anticipation for larger scale rioting. One day these stores are stocked with all kinds of stuff, then next day zip.
