"Wow. Tough room." It is good to see a thread where people actually think. The Iraqi situation today is a result of our mistakes during the gulf war. For some stupid reason we did not get rid of Hussein at that time. It was very sad to watch the citizens of Israel put on their gas masks and wait to be attacked. Thugs like the "Bootlicker" only respond to force (remember Khadaffi ?) and it was terrible that Israeli intelligence (at one time, perhaps the best in the world) was not permitted to do the job. IMO they could have gotten rid of Hussein but Israel was told by the USA not to attack. That was a big mistake. Now America wastes her time by asking for permission from the United Nations before doing anything. What a joke ! Israel now has no option but to defend herself if attacked, as she should. If not for our dependence on oil we would let the Arab nations kill themselves and not get involved. Our plans to develop alternative energy sources( solar, magnetic, whatever) vanished years ago and our dependency on middle east oil continues to increase. For those that want possible solutions: stop all foreign aid, most of which ends up in the pocket of corrupt leaders anyway, and offer financial incentives for the development of alternative fuel sources. Offer a reward of one billion dollars tax free to the persons or corporation that develops an affordable alternative energy source. All profits are to be tax free. This may seem like a silly idea, but unless we are no longer dependent on middle east oil, we will always have to get involved in the affairs of those oil producing nations. Good old American capitalism could be the answer. Unfortunately, the politicians would never go for this. We are now getting ready to bomb a nation not knowing where the chemical weapons are or if they are eventually destroyed, and not removing its dictator. American and Israeli lives will be in danger. Hopefully our military advisors have the solution to end this foolishness once and for all. But I wouldn't bet on it. Looks like we will go through the same thing every few years. <eom>
