Sovereign debt should be defaulted. That's because the criminals who do the borrowing purport to be acting for the people of the country they possess, but they are simply self-serving thieving criminal bastards draping themselves in the flag. For example Saddam Hussein borrowed giga$bucks from Russia. He was attacked by USA and the Coalition of Conquering Countries, murdered and the debts were abrogated.

Every country should pay its sovereign debt. Default, we are told, is not an option.

I agree that the debts were not payable.

Russia whined like a fleet of Koreans [who whined like a fleet of 747s about Qualcomm royalties] over the default.

Saddam borrowed giga$bucks and bought himself megatons of military equipment and soldiers, to protect his many palaces and they were seriously salubrious palaces, not just nice houses. He murdered and tortured anyone he fancied. And it was a lot of people. His victims and survivors should not be liable for his debts.

Creditors should be more circumspect about who they lend to.

I happen to be a creditor to USA at the moment and am aware that the criminal scum who I have loaned to might default and certainly will by dilution, [fast or slow]. Because of USA economic power, it's hard to avoid them while trying to participate in the Mobile Cyberspace and other technological achievements.

Re <<China is in default on a trillion dollars in debt to US bondholders. Will the US force repayment?BY ANDREW HALE, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR - 07/04/23 7:00 AM ET>>

... best go collect from the Qing dynasty or the Republic of China, after reading the force majeure clause, and make doubly sure can ascertain the bond certificates are genuine, recorded on some ledger presumably in the Forbidden City archives
