You can't judge SOXL based on the chart. You have to apply it to the SOX.X and adjust SOXL for deterioration. The longer it takes, the less it is worth comparison wise. They do not hold their value against the underlying index over the longer term. All triples work that way because they use expiring derivatives to accomplish the triple goal. That is why they reverse split all of the time and also carry a warning from their fund managers that they are for short term plays only. .
