Chuck, Thank you for that bit of insight. It makes sense that general architectural and design goal decisions get passed down and are already decided before the heads and media are spec'ed out. Question: Are drives designed with a goal to take advantage of a new technology. For example...will management say: go figure out how to take advantage of GMR? Or, when partial response channels first appeared did someone say go design a drive with PRML? Or do design goals get stated more specifically then that by upper management? Best, Stitch
