People holding strictly for split reasons may be surprises. Price gains following split are traceable to past and future good fundamental. That is, good fundamentals lead to earnings which lead to price gains which lead to splits, not hte other way around. The split itself is irrelevant.

Officers are usually bound by very srict windows in which they can sell stock. Usually the period directly prior to earnings is restricted and so Case probably did not have a choice in the matter.
