In this game of chicken, Intel had far more to lose.

That one billion that AMD gifted Intel by not playing would not only lowered Intel's client margins further, it would multiply that by another factor of adding further fab underutilization charges.

And at the same time, AMD also deprived TSMC of revenues for benefit of Intel fab. Lisa could have gone to TSMC and negotiated that (at the outset) potential quarterly loss of 1 billion and negotiated lower price to keep TSMC and AMD in the game.

This was in critical time for Intel, while Intel was trying to secure financing and subsidies. Weakness all around for Intel that AMD could exploit Or threaten to exploit.

Intel started holding worse cards and still outplayed AMD.
