put the fear of God into those slave-holders, because you are on the "right side of history." That's exactly what happened and its the only way it could've happened in our country.

Brumar, Lincoln absolutely WAS an aBoLiTiOnIsT aT hEaRt and he did NOT want them left as slaves. So what? The facts are that he compromised with the slave-holding states all the way until they seceded from the union. Even after the Civil War started, he didn't free the slaves until a few years later. Even with the luxury of hindsight, do you think Lincoln did the right thing in his initial compromises? Or do you think he should have just freed the slaves from day one in office? Tenchusatsu
