TChai:

I'm not too concerned about Symantec getting all the pros and no cons for now. Not only will JBuilder version 2.0 one-up them again but the margin of superiority will increase. From my reading of the Symantec pros I was not significantly in awe of them. Besides if those guys at the Developer Conference were any indication Symantec is marketing with a capital M - lots of show, some go, but for how long? By contrast BORL has a reasonable amount of show and lots of go.

(In any case it's the enterprise market that's important l/t. As more and more people realize BORL is not going to go away it makes oodles of sense to me that with their RAD tools they'll do very well.)

The main reason I posted that story was that JBuilder after what 5 months out in the market is mentioned in the same breath as VCafe. What happened to VJ++? MSFT in a catch-22 here?

Just goes to reiterate how good JBuilder is.

On the platinum list I did not know Delphi had sold a million! My impression was that it was closer to around 800,000? But this may be outdated.

So one day they'll all be double platinum?

And saw your other post about MSFT "mentioning kind words" about BI. My feeling is (and I mentioned this a few months ago) that MSFT is locked in a little "paradigm shift" battle with Java and they know that they need to continue to win developer minds to have any chance of succeeding. Anything that helps this cause of theirs is welcome.

My feeling is that Windows still represents a nice chunk of the client market and it makes good business sense for BORL to continue to pursue that market. MSFT may concede a few battles to win the war. Their war is against SUNW and others right now. BI is not a threat to their long term operations.

And any way BORL should continue this two-pronged attack.

Java for the big enterprise boys,

Windows for the large established base of client machines out there.

OVER AND OUT.
