> Speed limit is already no higher than 70 in California.

I would say the average in my city is 80 in a 65 zone. I live on a 25mph residential street. Its fairly regular occurrence for people to do 100mph on my street. Basically our freeways are anarchy. Why would anyone with wealth obey that law. There's no punishment. A guy who makes 500/hr can do a spreadsheet and KNOW he's saving money in the long run because:

1) the chances of a cop catching him are low
2) over the course of a year the time saving vis a vis his hourly will make him more money than the ticket.

That's why I'm against fines and for jail or public service punishment. If that idiot has to spend a weekend picking up trash he'll think twice before threatening other people's families and businesses recklessly speeding.

> In 1998, the Transportation Research Board footnoted an estimate that the NMSL reduced fuel consumption by 0.2 to 1.0 percent

Someone fucked up on that one.

Milage is inversely logarithmically proportional to speed. No brainer.

Its common simple physics.

What Will an 85 mph Speed Limit do to Your Mileage
