"TI has manufacturing expertise,..."

Does this mean they have lower, or are trying to achieve lower, manufacturing costs when compared with their competitors?

Intel on the other hand has very low cost high volume fabs. But when I see TI getting out of the DRAM business it leads me to believe they are doing so because their fabs are not as productive as that of their competitors.

A chip company can only go so far on nifty IC designs targeted at a growing market (ie DSP's) but the real advantage IMO is in their ability to produce chips at a lower cost then that of their competitors.

Any thoughts?
