BC,
His bad character didn't count against him. He finsihed his term and is still a celebrity to Dems.
Exactly. Republicans played the character card against Bill, then later Hillary.

After all, the Clintons were synonymous with lying, cheating, and stealing. Even the Clinton Body Count became one of the first Internet conspiracy theories. "Clintonian logic" was also a commonly-used phrase.

And Hillary's biggest fault during the 2016 election was that she was untrustworthy, despite her presenting herself as "Ready on day one to assume the responsibilities of the presidency."

So how did the Republicans finally defeat the Clinton political machine? By presenting a paragon of virtue and character?

Nope. They already tried that with McCain, then later Romney. Both were seen as either too liberal, or too weak.

In comes the brash Trump, and he turns every fault of the Clintons back upon the Democrats.

The Clintons are synonymous with lying? Bah, Trump can do the same thing ten times over.

The Clintons are synonymous with cheating and selling our country out? Rookies.

What about that Clinton Body Count? Bah, Trump could literally shoot a man on 5th Avenue, and his supporters will still love him for it.

Bottom line: Character used to count. Not anymore.
