Apparently Singapore has few fentanyl overdoses, not many opium dens [which were resident in Auckland in Greys Avenue when I was young], no street stoners, but I guess it's more to do with the penalties that are even more severe than caning than lack of wish to be brain poisoned.

I'm comfortable in Singapore. Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo too, whatever the time of night. Not so much downtown Auckland but I admit to not venturing there in recent decades so maybe it's okay. In Tokyo at 2.30am looking for accommodation with 13 year old son, [1990], drunk Japanese were trying to give us bank notes, not rob us. They were cheerful and nice. I politely declined as we were not vagrant or needing help other than directions.
