I think I will:Mq, it looks like that job will be opening up soon. Are you going to apply?

Li Shangfu: speculation grows over fate of China’s missing defence minister
theguardian.com

I could follow in the footsteps of Eugene Chen. He couldn't speak mandarin either. And was a child of the Great and Glorious British Empire with VVVs. [Foreign Minister/Defence Minister about the same, near enough]

I'd be demanding though - I would require 200 yuan a day retainer, and 100 yuan a day expenses. A free Yum Cha daily would seal the deal and I'd want to be able to invite Honoured Guests from Russia, USA, Ukraine, Taiwan, England, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Israel, Greece, Turkey, India, Vietnam, Philippines, and I've no doubt forgotten some. I'd like to hire a few consultants at 200 yuan a day each = Core Comrades numbering about 10.

Trade deals would be quick and cheap = "China says you can sell anything in China - other than hazardous goods of course such as polonium 210, novichok, semtex, fentanyl, leaded gasoline etc. No need to reciprocate - you don't have to let any Made in China into your country". Could do it by email, no CO2 production, hotel expenses etc required.

We'd need some military equipment that would stop incomings and for a while some MAD systems to keep USA at bay. I guess shore-based rocketry, and maybe orbital kinetic guided impact defences. Defeating attack satellites might be necessary [maybe big nets would do that]
