"**Matrox - can anyone say 3DDDDDDDDDD!!"

Until and unless 3-D chips outperform 2-D chips at 2-D tasks, 2-D chips will continue to be used in business machines.

This is going to be difficult to do while maintaining a comparable cost, because 3D cards demand more memory than 2D cards, and memory will always have SOME incremental cost.

In fact, companies may perfer that their employees have machines that don't play popular games too well! ;)

This goes for many home machines, as well. I have no use for 3D. If I could get good 3-D performance for an extra, say $10, AND performance at least equal to the best 2D cards, then, sure, I'd go with a 3D card.

I think that you are overstating the case - 3D is a market segment, not the market, and there's no reason to beleive that this is going to change.
