Cat was the only manufacturer that refused to be controlled by the UAW. They had a very long strike and threw them out.

It required a very well trained management team that ran the production tools with out the union workers. They led the durable goods makers in profits ever since.

Chrysler went broke twice "getting along" with the UAW and so did GM , but only once.

Ford did not go broke, but they had the foresight to outsource their production out of the US to a much greater degree, just before 2008 and the GFC.

Just saying it is history.
