>>I want to dump them.my problem is with my e mail address. What is going to happen, and how do I overcome it ?<<

You will do us shorters a favor dumping an expensive service like AOL when there are cheaper and better alternatives.
As an alternative:
-if you have Internet access already: use the free email at-
altavista.digital.com
-If you do not have an internet connection use a free dial in connection and an email addrss from Juno:
juno.com

If you have any questions may be I can help but don't get stuck with AOL with their high charges when you have free alternatives, Yeah! and dump them fast (actually I doubt if one could dump them fast enough ;-))
Looks like the shorts are getting nervous about AOL and many seem to be avoiding it, so may be finally time to start a downtrend.

Sammy, When you become a customer of your local ISP (Internet Service Provider) They will give you an E-Mail address. Ask your local friends to recommend an ISP for your best local service. You will use either MS-Explorer or Netscape to access your ISP. Allow a month of overlap using both AOL and your ISP. During that time send out address changes to everyone that you want to maintain contact with. Your AOL address will die when you quit AOL.

Dear Sammy:

you got so many options to dump Aol. if you dump AOl you will get

a better and a much more fast service.

just sign up with your local ISP and you will be very happy with

their fast, better and no commerical service.

I pay only $12.00 for my local ISP and i'm always happy with them.

i got email service from them and many other free email services

from companies like hotmail,usanet,Yahoo,Altavisita,Juno ...for

different purpose.

just give your local ISP a try and you will be more than happy.

It's true that when you setup with another ISP you will have email included. The problem is if you become dissatisfied with that ISP....then you'll have to change email addresses yet again.

The thing to do is to set up your email with a forwarding emailer such as Bigfoot.com You give out your email address as eg: sammy@bigfoot.com. Your email goes to them and then is forwarded immediately onto your actual ISP's email address. In the event you change ISP's in the future, no one has to be notified. You simply change the address to which bigfoot forwards. All very simple and elegant.

BTW, bigfoot.com is free and is not the only who does this. I use them and am very happy with their service.

Good Luck

Sammy...

>>I want to dump them.my problem is with my e mail address.<<

I have started to use YHOO's e-mail as a trial backup to my regular e-mail address. It is actually pretty good. I normally use the one provided free from my ISP.

The value in having one from YHOO or equivalent is that it gives you freedom to change ISP's in the future without changing your e-mail adress.

Most ISP's (probably all) have a free e-mail system. Also there are others that are national like juno, hot mail from MSFT, etc.

good Luck

Hi Sam:

I dumped them about a year ago. I had a good address book with all my correspondents e-mail addresses.

I just opened an account with a good local ISP (SWLink here in PHX) .... from AoL I then sent out an e-mail to all of them notifying them of the change ... ....kept AoL for about two more months so as to recieve any stray messages ... and then closed the AoL account.

To the best of my knowledge I did not loose one correspondent. The tough part was transferring all my e-mail addresses to my new browser/account. I had to enter them manually.

End of story ... and been happy since.
