as a professional, I have watched many shorts go out of business waiting for stocks to go to $2. In the interim, stocks double and triple. Timing shorts (and we do lots of them) is a very important part of making money, and shorting into momentum stocks tends to be the wrong way. If you find a company that has a finite lifespan, it should be timed that way, not shorted to prove a point. Not giving an opinion on the stock, just the mechanics of making money in shorts.

Call me a weenie! I bailed out of ACLY this AM at 26 1/2. When I look back at the last six months and see I made $20,000 in this stock ( and I'm a small player so that's a big profit for me ) I have no complaints, but I wish I had the guts to short it. I thought about it, but as a traditionally long buyer it is hard to make that move. The next time I get married I'll probably short that, and get my feet wet in the area. Enjoy your comments ( albeit excessive, but still OK ).

Any advice for someone who wants to start shorting, but always comes up tentative?
