Doren, the biggest concern I have is that she was an advisor to VP Brenda.

Given Brenda's piss-poor performance as VP, I can't imagine that the advice she got from Ms. Butler was sound.

Unless, of course, her advice was all centered around exploiting identity politics.

In any case, I don't really fault Newsom all that much for his choice. She's only filling in for just over a year, so why not take the opportunity to check off the boxes?
