News Nuggets

There was nothing short of an explosion of voice-over-the-Internet and
voice-over-IP (Vo/IP) announcements last week, all designed to take
advantage of a technology that started out as an interesting distraction, but is
rapidly emerging as a viable corporate market. VocalTec Communications
Ltd., Northvale, N.J., announced an alliance with ECI Telecom Ltd., Petah
Tikva, Israel. VocalTec is a pioneer in the world of voice-over-the-Internet
communications, and ECI is a manufacturer of integrated network solutions
for the international telco market. Together they plan to work toward
establishing a new public network.

3Com Corp. last week announced a Vo/IP agreement with USA Global Link
Inc.,
a Fairfield, Iowa-based provider of discount international
telecommunications services. The agreement calls for 3Com to engineer,
furnish and install Internet telephony facilities on a global basis.
