Frankly, I don't think the consumers have "gotten it" yet. The Sparq 1 GB drives are excellent. Why? Because the disks are so cheap.

At my local store, I went through the aisles and saw the Sparq 1.0 disks selling for $39.95 for 1 GB cartridge. This is cheap.

Consider 10 Zip disks that go for $15 a piece. Thats $150 for 1 GB. And the drive costs around $149. Which is obviously a better buy?
The Sparq 1 GB drive, of course.

Now, this is where Syquest has to cut down their prices. For a Syjet 1.5GB cartridge, it costs $79.95! Ah, wait a minute here. Why would I buy a Syjet 1.5GB drive when the cartridges cost too much? Syquest has to price these cartridges to be somewhere in the range of $60-$65 for the Syjet to be economical.

Don't get me wrong. I love my Syjet external SCSI. Its a PERFECT companion to mobile users such as myself who don't want to pay a premium for expensive laptop drive replacements. In many cases, the laptop drive you have is all you are going to get. And those 1 GB drives get filled up quite fast.

I just think that in order to create demand and interest, you have to price the cartridges in-line with the lower end cartridges. People weigh this in their judgement for purchase.
