I'll explain it to you, MiniGolfer67, and the rest of the thread, even though I think you are utterly incapable of understanding nuance. When it comes to identity politics, checking off the boxes comes with political risks, even for a state where Democrats dominate. If the checkbox candidate turns out to be incompetent and/or corrupt, the Democrats will be using up political capital trying to cover up and distract from their mistake. Case in point: Vice President Brenda. But with Feinstein's replacement, she will only be serving for just the final year of a six-year term. Hence Newsom took the opportunity to check off the boxes without having to live up to any mistakes he made in the process.
