OK, 1997 is over: Just now are we all getting an idea of the paperwork nightmare ahead. Forget the gains, the commissions, etc., lets get down to the serious stuff: Did you all get you 1099s:>? 1. How much was the postage to get it to you? 2. What were you net proceeds for the year? I am always impressed by how much it costs to get me my 1099 and what my gross proceeds for the year are......when my wife she's the 1099 she is flabbergasted. This year, postage was $5.25 and gross proceeds in retail trading account, about $72 million. (**for those thinking that this has anything to do with profitabiliy, you are misunderstanding. for 1099 purposes, gross proceeds is the total net of all sales. You now match these to cost of proceeds to get your gains.) Regards, Steve@yamner.com

Oh yeah someone asked about ARCA before... LOL I use ARCA quite a bit. As an alternative to using a SOES order, you can use the ECN to get things done. On your Level Two quotes you would see my trades go through TNTO Terra Nova. Using the ECN allows you to beat the spread ( if the market isn't going completely against you ). Also a handy way to execute if you want to trade more than 1000 shares at a time. If I want to get short and the bid is on a down tick, I can use the ARCA button to meet the best offer and get short that way. Obviously if a stock is ripping down, that won't work too well, but I have gotten short that way plenty of times. The ARCA button is also the way to trade before or after the bell. SOES won't cut it then. We just got the selectnet button in the order entry screens last week. Yet more options for getting great entries and exits. funk
