lml,

I've been following Diamond's tactical meandering in my spare time.

Diamond's use of the 740i isn't particularly surprising. The real story associated with the Intel rollout involves the direct inclusion of the chipset in question in Intel's motherboards. The 740i will be standard issue on Intel motherboards, which automatically provides volume and pricing advantages that TDFX is unlikely to match.

Will OEM's flock to Diamond's add-on solution when they can get the same chipset right on the motherboard? Seems to me that even if the OEM's do buy an add-on rather than take the on-board version, the margins on Diamond's 740i boards aren't going to be particularly impressive.

At least management is finally doing something in addition to spewing mindless press releases every day. Someone ought to ask Diamond why Supra isn't on the list of manufacturers involved with defining the coming ADSL standard.
