I have stated more than once that this pulse charge technology
is evolutionary, rather than revolutionary. It is aimed at the
driving conditions and fuel costs in other countries, not here,
But there is certainly hope that BAT pulse charge technolgy
can be applied to gasoline engines. I would expect that up to
40 miles per gallon could be achieved out of a small V-8. My
Ford T-Bird gets 29 mpg right now at 69 mph on flat ground,
and I have done nothing whatever to tune it for economy. I
can drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles with no fuel stops.
This is why I look forward to the comparision tests between the BAT
modified Ford engine and the control engine. There is nothing to
stop Ford from doing this on their own, but paying BAT for a
license would be cheap to them. I am sure that BAT knows
some secrets about combustion chamber shape that I don't.
Ron Holland spoke of experiments welding on top of the Yanmar
pistons to reshape the chamber. This is the sort of thing that
engineers do on prototypes, then the changes are incorporated
in the production engine. Certainly the vehicle was optimized in
every way for a record attempt. I would hardly expect to get
100 mpg in freeway driving, but 70 to 75 mpg might be obtained.
Right now, BAT is in for a big fight for survival. I am reminded
of a song that goes, "Why do some people get a kick out of
stomping on other people's dreams?" I'll bet Joe is asking himself
that question a lot.
