Or you raise your kids to know how to use and respect guns, not play with them unsupervised like everyone did in the old days when parents acted responsibly.
School student parking lots used to be full of cars/trucks with guns in them. We just didn't go around shooting each other. My buddies and I would go hunting after school all the time. Before that, we would ride our bikes to the woods with our rifles and the police would see us and wave. (Yes, they were unloaded until we got there)
I have many loaded firearms in my house at all times. I don't have time to load them or unlock them if a coyote is near so I have loaded 243 and 30-06 handy. I have 22 pistols and rifles for when killer dog jumps a raccoon, possum, armadillo or groundhog. I have loaded shotguns and 357, 44 mag, 45 ACP strategically placed in case uninvited guests decide to take advantage of my remote location.

I've raised and still raising more kids than I care to admit to. (3rd marriage) No casualties yet. Rule #1 - Don't touch the firearms or the stereo. LOL
