The gold market functions as a safe haven, but also as an intermediate term projection of where the USD and real rates are headed. That's what is pretty fascinating about the gold market because in contrast to equities, whose focus is primarily very short term, the Gold market tends to look past the short term unless there is some forced selling.

Here is the problem I see with job losses: the Biden Administration has passed major fiscal stimulus, including the Infrastructure bill, which requires lots of workers. The auto workers are on strike and that will likely impact the next monthly jobs report. But that is a temporary phenomenon.

One thing is for sure: if Trump was President, none of this would have occurred. He would have attacked the Fed and Powell every day until they stopped raising rates a long time ago.
