And there are others who are skeptical or even hostile to their own side. As always genetics plays a major role, as does the effectiveness of propaganda. Speaking of WWII, it is instructive to contemplate that the Western Allies gleaned a lot of information from prisoners by treating them humanely. One reason baseball is so popular in Japan is US soldiers played against Japanese prisoners who realized they were lied to when they were treated humanely. Both sides gained when the Allies treated the Fascist country populations humanely. This is a lesson Israel did not learn.
