I don't think you understand this whole Direct 2 Cell works.

The cheap $25 3G cell phone becomes a "Satellite Phone"

SMS, MMS, Voice, little bit of data (500Kbs-1Mbs).

When you are out of reach of terrestrial. The cell phone "roams" onto the Satellite Mobile Network Operator.

It's sort of exactly like how the "multimode Globalstar phones" were supposed to work. Except these can use cheap 3G cell phones all the way up to the most recent Galaxy Flagship models.

The Cell phone becomes a satellite phone using Terrestrial Mobile Spectrum.

If you charge up your old 3G cellphone, then it will, in theory, be able to connect from anywhere in New Zealand

Speaking of "terminals"..

SpaceX recently activated their first "Starlink Community Gateway" up in the Aleutians in Alaska.

The community gateway provides a terrestrial "end point" to provide data directly from the ISL bandwidth to any given point that the "Community Gateway" is installed. The one in Unalaska claim 10Mbs delivered to the "Community Gateway" where it is then distributed to the local town nearby.

So the "Community Gateway" provides a connection to the ISL network of the satellites at the 53 degree inclinations.

So if your "Community Gateway" is located at 46 degrees or lower. Now the "Community Gateway" has the ISL bandwidth of both the 53 and 43 degree constellation. The two ISL networks can be "aggregated". Then in the future when they launch the new satellites in the 33 degree inclination, then additional ISL bandwidth can be aggregated. Same goes for the 70 degree and the 97.6 degree constellations. It provides the ability to to provision multi-gigabyte service from anywhere to anywhere on the globe.

Doesn't take much imagination to see a single antenna installed on a "cruise ship", "aircraft carrier" or perhaps even an A380.
