The best place to buy a DISH is from your local satellite specialist. You can find one near you at the DISH web site, 800-333-DISH, or calling the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) at 703-549-6990. A local retailer will not only be able to help you with hardware, but also with signal distribution - so you can make the most of your system throughout the house.

Many people who can install the DISH themselves still need help understanding their local channel options and distribution. It's better to deal with someone on the local level who knows what you need in your area than to try and buy directly. What little you might same from an 800# is not worth the aggravation.

NOEL

Don,

Are you planning on installing yourself? If so, go mail order. It is much cheaper that way. I strongly recommend the 5000 unit as it has local link, so you can use the Dish menu for the digital and analog (local) signals.

Cheapest price for this unit I've seen is $299 at glav.com.

For a list of other mail order dealers, check out pw2.netcom.com.

Don, I bought a 5000 series unit from Great Lakes Audio and Video at the web address W. Mena gave you(www.glav.com). I then had the unit installed by Echonet...the entire process went well.

The whole deal cost $220 for the box and 100 for install...on a special deal they had in Dec. Prices may be higher now.

Another supplier on the web is Satellite Services at www.satserv.com. 2 of my co-workers bought systemns from them and were happy with the experience.

I agree that the 5000 series is the way to go. The feature set is pretty broad and the Local Link setup allows you access your local cable on the one remote....it all goes through the 5000 box. I now get local channels via lifeline cable at approx 7$/month....it saved having to mess with the antenna and in my case, allows me to get Fox.

Good luck!
