M'bishi Elec, Oki to quit DRAM business--paper

TOKYO, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Mitsubishi Electric Corp (TOKYO:6503)
and Oki Electric Industry Co Ltd are to withdraw from dynamic
random-access memory (DRAM) business as they have decided not to
invest in making 256 megabit DRAM chips, economic daily Nihon
Keizai Shimbun said on Tuesday.
They will shift their focus to the System LSI business, the
paper said.
Spokesmen for Mitsubishi and Oki were not immediately
available to comment on the report.
Other makers are expected to start mass-producing 256
megabit DRAM chips around 2000, the paper said.
