ed. RE: "The growth of the pie is limitted, if both CPQ and DELL want to grow as before, one of them has to sink."

I don't agree. Look at the share of "all other" desktop PC's in the U.S.: it's 28% and the top 4 only have a 46% share. There's lots of room for both Dell and CPQ to grow at the same time, at the expense of the smaller players. Globally the numbers show more potential for CPQ and DELL. All other is 43.6%; share of top 4 is 35%. (Source: IDC 3Q)

I think where DELL is vulnerable is in the server area and in the Sub1K desktop. If this migrates to the business market watch out. IMHO.

I am long CPQ and don't have a position in Dell.

Ed,

Excuse me for butting in but the pie is expanding due to new foreign markets, new technology, upgrading of existing computers (we are only a year old and have upgraded twice.)

I am "bullish" on CPQ and DELL..remember there are a number of other box makers that can be "hammered".. IBM, Gateway, HWP, TI, etc, etc...the pie can get even bigger for the strongest of the strong.

At any rate..let's all make some $$$$$
