Mtel Selects Informix as Database to Provide Messaging for Advanced Messaging Network

Informix Corporation (NASDAQ:IFMX), the leading provider of

Telecommunication Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:MTEL) has installed
Informix(R) Dynamic Server(tm) to manage service information on the
Mtel Advanced Messaging Network.
After reviewing its previous database technology, Mtel replaced
it with Informix Dynamic Server, which will enable Mtel to expand its
database as its customer base for Advanced Messaging services
continues to grow. Recently, Mtel, a leader in the paging and
messaging industry, reported that it had more than 207,900 Advanced
Messaging Service units in service -- more than double the number a
year ago. Advanced Messaging services include SkyWriter, an
interactive two-way messaging service and SkyWord Plus, which
guarantees message delivery.

The Informix Dynamic Server is used to store all service
information about a paging customer, including which features the
customer has subscribed to, and all of the addressing information that
enables messages to be routed to a customer's pager. Once an incoming
call is received, it is critical for the system to quickly ascertain
which greeting to present to the caller, which features to enable for
the caller and, once the message has been received, to instantaneously
dispatch a page to the customer's preferred device.
The ability to handle a huge number of callers at the same time
is a key benefit of Mtel's new Informix-based system, as is speed --
the new Informix-based system is already clocking access and retrieval
speeds in excess of ten times those of the previous system -- and
reduced system maintenance costs.
