Eric,
Microsoft is dumping heat from their server farms in Quincy, WA to nearby warehouses and other buildings here in the wintertime.
If true, then they had to build pipes and infrastructure to carry the waste heat over to those other buildings.

That only makes good economic (and environmental) sense at industrial scale.

No way that is viable for residential-scale utilities.
