I'd punt the economy. It can come back, but dead people can't.

Using your philosophy we would still be under lockdown. Vaccines didn't prevent any spread. The reason we are on the backside of this is a significant chunk of society has had it. Those that get it now are fortunate it has mutated to be less lethal but we wouldn't be there yet if we had all lived as hermits.

Wharfie,
I'd start by saying, and keep re-enforcing that this was the most serious contagious disease to come along since the Spanish Flu, and people should follow the advice of their state and county health agencies and personal physicians. I'd wear a mask. I wouldn't hold events. I would switch as much government work as possible to remote, and close down federal tourist attractions. Hopefully, I would have restocked federal warehouses with masks and gloves in the first 3 years. I wouldn't be supportive of just states who voted for me, like Kush did. I wouldn't show up at press conferences to promote bleach, altho I might offer some perspective based on my career as a respiratory therapist. I'd prolly go down to NIH to encourage the efforts to come up with a vaccine. I might try to increase unemployment bennies.
An imperfect answer, but I prefer that over the oh-so-"perfect" answers coming from the know-it-alls who remain in denial to this day.
