Elroy,

Re. help me out again

I will give you a hint:

Suppose you could do your math again before calling Intel a piece of dead meat.:-)

I can see Intel's profits increasing at the end of next year with Merced. Discounting by 6 months the stock starts rising May/June 1998. But that's more than a year away. Intel's dead money for another year.

Regards,
Ibexx

Elroy,

<<What's so special about that which will increase sales of high margin chips.>>

I agree, there seems to be a bit of time that needs to pass before we see widespread accetpance of the latest crop of cpus. I think we will continue to see further stratification of of the cpu market, and in time, the higher end chips start to gain a foothold.

As far as the price of INTC share, I also agree, we probably won't see any substantial price movements. (Ignoring the ever present possibility of 'irrational exuberence' aka intel at $100 back in Aug)

At 75-85, I consider it 'fairly priced' I define fairly to mean at a PEG<=1. You have hit on the big question, however, when will the next spurt hit. It seems that Intel grows bigtime a couple of quarters in a row, then sits for a while....

Elroy,
RE:<< Intel's dead money for another year.>>

I am staying with Intel. Maybe AMD should warrant your consideration.
( I thought a little bit of sarcasm was in order ).

Sorry guys, the devil made me say it! My gut feeling tells me that INTC will be at least 140 by year end,
humble carl

Elroy - Re: "Maybe you know of some killer products from Intel I haven't been reading about in PC Week."

Intel's top secret AKatmai-47 will "blow away" the competition.

That's their next "killer" product.

Paul

Elroy, re: "What comes out next?"

It will be a great year, in spite of the analyst manipulations. Here are the milestones you should note:

- Server penetration. Look for major focus to extend penetration into high end (for Intel) machines. First multi-processor Deshutes at 450MHz each. Later look for Katmai with a push to the high speed DRAM types. Intel plans to "test" just how much the market will pay for high performance large server configurations. I expect upside earnings "surprise" from unexpected server product revenue.

- New market penetrations for the connected PC. Look for major market share increases with both network and multimedia. Intel will get serious about playing in network hardware with major volume increases. For multimedia look for rapid ramp of the i740 and increased notebook graphics penetration bolstered by lots of standards leadership and software offerings.

- Completion of market conversion to PII. Look for a blizzard of PII versions to continue the conversion to PII architecture. Intel wants to be out of the socket 7 business by the end of the year.
