Gave that up makes it sound voluntary; more like lost it in wars, or had it stolen by settlers as recently as in the last few months.
Of course it wasn't "voluntary." Even now, they still refuse to accept any responsibility for their own stupid-ass actions.

And with a world that enables them because they're the so-called "victims," why would they EVER take responsibility?

So no, it will never be "voluntary" to them, until they realize that they're their own worst enemy.
