Resistive heating is close to 100% efficient.

My heat pump is 3.5 times more efficient.

350% at an OAT of 47degrees F.

Pkrbkr, here in California, a heat pump is supposed to be more efficient ... in theory.

This is because moving heat around when the interior and exterior temperatures are close together is highly efficient.

It's when outdoor temperatures become more extreme that heat pumps become less efficient (e.g. New England, Wisconsin, etc.)

Some heat pumps also come with electric heating coils in these situations, because the heat pump performance also drops off considerably.

Of course, the electric coils are very inefficient. You would be better off burning wood or natural gas.

P.S. - I haven't even discussed the higher cost of a heat pump vs. a combination of a natural gas furnace and an A/C compressor. Or the maintenance headaches. It's so easy to "mandate" this stuff, but the costs and the headaches are all forced upon us "regular people."
