They were Democrats. So was George Wallace.

So the fuck what. You know the Dem party was the Confederacy and Lincoln represented the progressive Republican party which abolished slavery. And the parties slowly evolved. Rs are now the Confederacy.

I know Byrd changed, which is a sign of maturity.

Liberals are pretty good about changing their minds when they are wrong, but conservatives not so much.

I am not saying Byrd was a liberal, but it is a sign of maturity he saw he was wrong.

Think about it what is a conservative>--"to conserve", to stay the same.,

And that is what they do.

They also have no viable social philosophy.
