That is dead WRONG. What I have said over and over and over, is that we need to look at whether the parties were liberal or conservative!! For the last 100 years the Democratic party has been the liberal party, but not in 1860!! The liberals going all the way back to the revolution were the smartest and most humane! Their shit did not stink!! Alex is correct you are either playing word games or do not understand the subject! In 1860 the Republican party was the liberal party of the northern abolitionists and the Democrats were the southern slave states.! That got reversed after the turn of the last century and Wilson was the first liberal although he was a racist, and FDR was really the dems first liberal president who's shit did not stink! < koan likes to pretend we've always been virtuous, and that our fossil shit smells good, by jumping back and forth between Democrats and liberals, and by calling some Dixiecrats.
