Are you familiar with the JPM Collar?
It's a big (very big) options collar trade that a number of pension funds engage in. Generally speaking, the market closes near one of the two collar ends on the expiry. Think of it along the lines of max pain, but more accurate and with bigger heft.

For this December, the collar is at 4515 and 4055.
