Dow Jones Newswires -- February 17, 1998
Macromedia Up Friday On News Of Planned Shockrave
Web Site

PALO ALTO, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Macromedia Inc. (MACR) plans to
set up an Internet site that one analyst believes will attract postings from computer illustrators and artists - as well as significant ad revenue.

The software maker's stock rose 16% after Volpe Brown & Whelan Co.
analyst Charles H. Finnie on Friday disclosed news of the site, which will be called Shockrave. Macromedia makes a multimedia software tool named Shockwave.

Finnie told Dow Jones that users of Macromedia tools will be able to create content for the site, and the site has already drawn advertising interest from well-known brands such as Nabisco Holdings Corp.'s (NA) LifeSavers and Cadbury Schweppes' (CSG) 7Up.

In his comments on the San Francisco company Friday, Finnie also said the "preliminary signs" from new products Macromedia has brought to market are good. The company should see increasing profits over the next several quarters, said Finnie, who has a buy rating on the stock.

Macromedia shares rose 1 15/32, or 15.9%, to 10 23/32 in heavy Nasdaq
volume Friday.
