Electrical power generation in the world is moving rapidly towards "distributed generation" and away from "centralized generation".

New technologies such as PV's has allowed that. One watt or megawatts...

HVDC provides the method to move electrical power over very long distances more efficiently than AC.

One of my physics profs in college worked on this project in the 1960's:

Just one wire can move the power, the other conductor is the Earth.

You cannot do that with AC power.

This technology is rolling out everywhere in the world today and can cross oceans.
