I should add that in North America the power going to your house is 120/240 volts 60 Hz.

If it's not that then something is terribly wrong with the drop to your house.

I wired up a Tesla wall charger and it cost me out of pocket less than $700.00. If you were to wire up a NEMA 14-50 the price could be as low as a couple hundred bucks if your main breaker box was in your garage.

Lot's of variables.

Tesla's Supercharger network is pretty bulletproof. No wonder all the NA car manufactures (and a bunch of foreign ones) are switching to Tesla's NACS.

Excellence in engineering.

Bill,
And if charging in the garage, spend $3,000 to equip it with 220 circuit and cord/connector.
I mentioned this before and why I won't equip my garage with a 220V charger for my plug-in hybrid.

Message 34475194

I won't even equip my garage with a new 110V outlet that is on its own circuit-breaker.

Anyway, this isn't the first time Eric tried to downplay the costs of moving to EVs by doing the electricals yourself:

I'm an electrical engineer, and even I won't do my own electrical work in my own home. I kind of like not having 100 gigajoules of electrical energy coursing through my carbon-based body ...
