...I’m not sure what constitutes the majority of contestants…
Being guided by the majority of participants who express an opinion seems reasonable.

Hi technetium,
I favor 1/1/24 midnight PST as the deadline for portfolio submissions and using the 12/29/23 prices as the initial stock prices.
Much appreciate your running the Contest for 2023 as well as the new 2024 Contest!
Best wishes to all for a 2024 full of many joyful moments!
Peace & good health,
Bulba

Many of us will be setting up our "stellar and awarding winning portfolios" over the long weekend and having the closing prices of today will be built into our tracking method. However, with you doing all the heavy lifting it should be your choice for the starting date. (IMO)

PS: I have a friend who knows a guy, whose cousin has a neighbor who is a hit man, but don't let the issue of the starting date be a factor in your decision. If you really want to make me happy you could start it January 4th, as that is my birthday!

Who wants the contest to start on the first trading day of the year?

That would be my preference if you're not inconvenienced, then Yahoo's YTD data will correspond with our picks.

Ashley

I'd vote for a blend as suggested by technetium. Before 1/2 are all valid. If, after, a pick with material news or an unusual jump is open to being nixed.

As a rule change, I also suggest nullifying any pick already being acquired, so no KRTX, MRTX, IMGN, etc. since it's gaming/outsmarting the 20% rule.
